Milk - Never Dated

Milk – Never Dated is the solo debut EP by Milk Dee, best known as one half of the influential hip-hop duo Audio Two. Released through Rick Rubin’s American Recordings, the project marked Milk’s return to recording after Audio Two split over creative differences. The release contains nine tracks and runs for approximately 27 minutes.Milk, whose real name is Kirk Robinson, had already established himself in hip-hop through Audio Two and the classic “Top Billin’.” With Never Dated, he moved into a solo setting while retaining the stripped-down, old-school approach that characterized his earlier work. Contemporary reviews described the EP as old-school, shout-and-response rap rather than an attempt to follow the newer styles dominating hip-hop at the time. The tracklist includes “Intro,” “Get Off My Log,” “Laid & Paid II,” “Spam,” “Go 2 Hell!,” “Rude & Cocky,” “Smoke Up My Ass,” and “Ask Me How Thick,” with additional material appearing on different editions. “Get Off My Log” features Big V, while “Spam” features Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys. Ad-Rock also co-wrote and co-produced the track, with Mike D handling drum programming.“Spam” became the most notable collaboration on the record, combining Milk’s distinctive high-pitched delivery with Ad-Rock’s similarly recognizable vocal style. The song uses food and diet imagery for its subject matter while maintaining the playful, direct character of Milk’s rhymes.Production throughout the project was handled primarily by Milk himself, reflecting his role not only as an MC but also as a producer. Rick Rubin and Nat Robinson are credited as executive producers, connecting the release with American Recordings and Rubin’s interest in early hip-hop styles.Although Never Dated received relatively little commercial attention, it became an intriguing late-period document from one of the voices behind “Top Billin’.” The EP ultimately proved to be Milk’s final major solo project as a rapper, making it a notable release for listeners interested in the continuation of early New York hip-hop into the 1990s.
