UGK – Ridin’ Dirty is the third studio album by American hip-hop duo UGK, consisting of Bun B and Pimp C. Released through Jive Records, the album was recorded during 1995 and 1996 and became the duo’s most commercially successful release. It reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.The album contains thirteen tracks, beginning with “Intro” and continuing with “One Day,” “Murder,” “Pinky Ring,” “Diamonds & Wood,” and “3 in the Mornin’.” The second half includes “Touched,” “Fuck My Car,” “That’s Why I Carry,” “Hi-Life,” “Good Stuff,” “Ridin’ Dirty,” and “Outro.” Guest appearances include Mr. 3-2, Ronnie Spencer, Smoke D, C-Note, Big Smokin’ Mitch, and N.O. Joe.Production was handled by Pimp C, N.O. Joe, Mr. 3-2, and Sergio. The record combines Southern hip-hop with elements associated with country rap, gangsta rap, and Texas rap. Pimp C’s production is particularly important to the album’s sound, combining bass-heavy arrangements, samples, and live instrumentation.Ridin’ Dirty became one of the most influential albums in Southern hip-hop and played an important role in establishing UGK as one of the defining acts from Texas. The duo’s music brought together the perspectives of Port Arthur, Texas, with a sound that differed from both West Coast gangsta rap and the emerging styles of other Southern scenes.The album contains numerous samples, including material from the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, Bootsy Collins, Isaac Hayes, George Duke, the Fatback Band, Pink Floyd, Maynard Ferguson, and Wes Montgomery. These samples contribute to the layered musical character of the production.The album received little national attention immediately after its release and had no official singles or music videos, yet its reputation grew substantially over time.
