Rasheed Chappell x 38 Spesh – Checks & Balances (2022) is a collaborative EP that unites New Jersey lyricist Rasheed Chappell with Rochester producer and MC 38 Spesh. Released through Perfect Time Music Group and TRUST, the project showcases two respected underground artists whose shared appreciation for authentic East Coast hip-hop results in a focused and cohesive release. Produced entirely by 38 Spesh, the EP reflects the timeless boom-bap tradition while delivering a modern sound built on lyrical precision and cinematic storytelling.
The production features soulful loops, dusty samples, hard drum breaks, and deep basslines that provide the perfect backdrop for Rasheed Chappell's vivid narratives and 38 Spesh's rugged style. Throughout the project, the duo explores themes of loyalty, ambition, street survival, and personal growth without sacrificing lyrical complexity or authenticity. Guest appearances from DJ Eclipse, The Musalini, Maf, and B.A. Badd complement the chemistry between the two main artists while keeping the focus on sharp lyricism and polished boom-bap production.
