Seagram – Reality Check (1994) is the second studio album by Oakland rapper Seagram and one of the strongest releases in the history of Bay Area gangsta rap. Released through Rap-A-Lot Records and Priority Records, the album expanded on the dark street realism of his debut while introducing a smoother, more refined G-funk sound. The project reached the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and further established Seagram as one of Oakland's most respected lyricists.Built around deep basslines, melodic synthesizers, heavy drum programming, and unmistakable West Coast grooves, the album perfectly captures the sound of mid-1990s Northern California hip-hop. Seagram delivers vivid stories inspired by life in Oakland, touching on survival, loyalty, street politics, and personal struggles with a calm but commanding flow. The production remains polished without sacrificing the raw authenticity that became his trademark, while guest appearances from Too $hort, Gangsta P, and other Bay Area artists strengthen the album's regional identity.Unlike many commercial rap releases of the era, the record stays firmly rooted in Oakland's underground culture, balancing G-funk melodies with uncompromising street narratives. Tracks such as "The Town," "Gangsta Livin'," "Eastside," and "Gangstas & Players" have become favorites among longtime West Coast fans, helping the album earn a lasting reputation as one of Seagram's finest works.Today, Seagram – Reality Check (1994) is regarded as an essential Bay Area rap album, celebrated for its authentic Oakland sound, memorable production, and its lasting influence on Northern California gangsta rap.
