Hasta Siempre – Paid In Soul is the first full-length album by the complete Hasta Siempre collective, bringing together members who had previously released music as solo artists, duos and smaller combinations. The Saint-Étienne group includes Mash, 12Mé, Romstick, Mans and Fleow, with the project representing a more unified expression of the collective’s musical identity.Unlike the group’s earlier work, the album takes a distinctly musical approach. The entire production was composed by alias Mash, who had previously been known primarily for his vocal performances. The beats make extensive use of soul samples, live musicians and backing vocals, giving the project a warm and organic character while retaining its foundations in French underground hip-hop.The lyrical work is shared between 12Mé, Mans, Romstick and alias Mash. Their writing forms the central element of the album, combining different personalities and approaches while maintaining a cohesive collective identity. The result is a varied project that moves beyond a strictly conventional boom-bap formula and places considerable emphasis on musical arrangements. The album also features several prominent guests from the French rap scene. Sako of Chiens de Paille appears on the project, alongside Fisto, Da’Pro and members of Eska Crew. These collaborations connect Hasta Siempre with the wider network of independent French hip-hop, particularly the scenes around Saint-Étienne and other regional rap communities.Sako’s participation is particularly notable given his connection to the Cannes-based group Chiens de Paille. His appearance demonstrates the strong links between different regional underground scenes and the collaborative culture that characterized French independent rap during this period.Paid In Soul was released on February 25, 2008, through FléHome Prod. The album contains 13 tracks and has a total running time of approximately 58 minutes. The project subsequently became recognized as the sole album by Hasta Siempre in its complete lineup. It remains an interesting example of French independent hip-hop from Saint-Étienne, distinguished by its soul-oriented production, live instrumentation, collaborative lineup and emphasis on musicality.
