Salif - Qui M'aime Me Suive

Salif – Qui M’aime Me Suive is the fifth solo album by French rapper Salif, released through Valyu. Following Curriculum Vital, the album represents another stage in the evolution of the Boulogne-Billancourt MC, combining his established street-rap approach with a more experimental and musical direction. Released on June 21, 2010, the project contains 16 tracks and runs for approximately 64 minutes.Salif, born Salif Fofana, emerged from the Pont de Sèvres area of Boulogne-Billancourt and began his career in 1995 as one half of Nysay alongside EXS. He later became associated with the Beat de Boul movement and Kool Shen’s IV My People collective. His solo catalog is known for its direct portrayal of suburban life, personal experiences, social pressure, and the realities of the French street environment.Qui M’aime Me Suive is notable for its two-part musical structure. The first half remains close to Salif’s established street-rap style, while the second half moves toward more melodic and experimental territory. The change in direction gives the album a broader sonic identity than some of his previous work.Production comes from several contributors, most notably Canardo, Cannibal Smith, and John Gitlis of Enhancer. Their work introduces elements of electronic music and nu-metal alongside conventional French hip-hop production, creating a more aggressive and contemporary sound.Unlike many of Salif’s earlier projects, the album contains no guest rappers, keeping the focus entirely on his own voice and perspective. This gives the record a particularly personal character and allows the contrast between its two musical sections to remain central to the listening experience. The album reached number 22 on the French Albums Chart and remained in the chart for twelve weeks. It was also Salif’s final major studio album before he largely withdrew from the French rap scene.Salif – Qui M’aime Me Suive remains an important release in the rapper’s catalog, capturing his willingness to move beyond conventional street rap while retaining the sharp writing and uncompromising perspective that defined his work.
