Salif – Prolongations is a double-disc French hip-hop project by Salif, released in 2008 through Valyu. Coming after Boulogne Boy, the project occupies an important place in Salif’s discography and continues his raw, street-oriented approach to French rap. It contains 37 tracks with a total running time of more than two hours.Salif, born Salif Fofana, emerged from Boulogne-Billancourt and began his career with Nysay alongside EXS. His background in the Pont de Sèvres area and connections to the Beat de Boul movement shaped the direct and uncompromising character of his writing. Before Prolongations, he had already released his debut album Tous Ensemble, Chacun Pour Soi and the 2007 project Boulogne Boy.The first disc presents Salif’s core street-rap material, combining personal experiences, social observations, neighborhood life and reflections on the realities of the French suburbs. The second disc expands the project with additional recordings, collaborations and shorter pieces, giving the release the broad format of a street album rather than a tightly structured conventional studio record.The project features collaborations with several notable French rappers, including Samat, Fofo44, MC James, Aketo, Soprano, Genotype, Rim’K and Mac Kregor. These appearances connect Salif with different parts of the French underground and street-rap scene while maintaining the project’s distinctly Boulogne-centered identity.Contemporary retrospectives place Prolongations within the rapid expansion of the French street-CD format during the late 2000s. This format allowed artists to combine previously released material, unreleased tracks, collaborations and newer recordings into expansive projects, often producing releases with unusually long tracklists.The project was commercially visible as well, entering the French Albums Chart and reaching number 73.
