Various – Nouvelle Donne is a landmark French hip-hop compilation that introduced a new generation of MCs while bringing them together with established names from the French rap scene. Released by the independent Nouvelle Donne label, the project became an important early showcase for artists who would go on to play significant roles in French hip-hop. The label itself was founded by Kodjo in 1997 and quickly developed a reputation for supporting emerging talent.The compilation’s concept is reflected in its title: Nouvelle Donne presents a changing generation of French rappers and creates connections between newcomers and already recognized figures. The lineup includes A.T.K., Zoxea, Lyr-X, Daomen, Agression Verbale, Sir Doum’s, Jedi, Ideal J, Cercle Fermé, Sista Claris, Seul 2 Seul, Too Leust, Princess Aniès and Les Sages Poètes de la Rue.One of the most notable moments is A.T.K.’s collaboration with Zoxea on “Attaque à Mic armé,” a track that became an important recording in the group’s catalog. Other collaborations similarly connect emerging artists with established MCs, creating a compilation that functions as a bridge between different generations of French rap.DJ Poska handles the opening introduction, reinforcing the project’s mixtape-inspired character and its connection with the DJ culture surrounding French hip-hop during the late 1990s.
